1979 | Ursulina Schüler-Witte & Ralf Schüler
Messedamm 19, 14055 Berlin
The International Congress Center (ICC) Berlin is a prime example of brutalist architecture in the heart of Germany's capital. Designed by the architects Ralf Schüler and Ursulina Schüler-Witte, the ICC Berlin was completed in 1979, amidst the turbulent era of the Cold War.
This structure is considered one of the most significant landmarks of post-war Germany. With a cost exceeding 924 million Marks (equivalent to approximately 1.194 billion Euros today), it was the most expensive construction in West Berlin. For years, discussions have been ongoing in Berlin about the building's future. Messe Berlin, the venue operator, reportedly has no interest in maintaining its operation, as the expenses are said to surpass revenues from events. [I1]
