Dominicusstraße 19, 10823 Berlin
St. Norbert Church, located on Dominicusstraße in Berlin-Schöneberg, is a notable Roman Catholic site combining historical and modern architectural elements. Originally built between 1913 and 1918 by architect Carl Kühn, it features a neoromantic style with a distinctive double tower façade integrated into the street-facing building wall.
Severely damaged during World War II, significant portions, including the original façade, were demolished to facilitate the expansion of Dominicusstraße into a major east-west traffic artery. In response, the church underwent extensive renovations from 1958 to 1962, led by architects Hermann Fehling and Daniel Gogel, resulting in a blend of the old structure and new, modern additions.
The current design retains the central, column-free church space with its domed ceiling and barrel-vaulted altar area, though it is now backed by a modern, street-facing wall. Original features like the pulpit, confessionals, and pews from dark stained oak remain intact. Both the original and the renovated parts of St. Norbert Church are protected as historical monuments.
